Theoretically, I wanted to share here the third part of the BOTM Maloja Edition but the video is not ready for release right now.

Change of plans is something I am getting really used to...

Instead, I want to share an idea which I have in my head since a long time and actually wanted to realise in 2020. I wanted to build - in cooperation with our most dedicated OPEN dealers -  a network of 10-15 OPEN-HOUSES around the globe.

The idea is to have a place where you can rent OPEN bikes and all equipment needed for single or multiple days trips.

You have a selection of routes and a selection of places where you can stay from budget to luxury... So you get the complete package and you don't have to worry about anything. You just travel to the OPEN HOUSE and all the rest is taken care off..

But of course it is not gonna happen even in 2021. Today on my lunch ride I realised once again how small my world has become. As you might know by reading my blogs our office is very close to the German and French boarder. So I am pretty limited where I can go. Not complaining I still can go...

But on the positive side I am already checking the routes for another project the " non border cross" ride along the borders to our neighbour countries Germany, France, Italy and Austria and Lichtenstein. A ride along the border and always stay on the Swiss side...Something completely new!

Back to the video for this OPEN HOUSE. It is the perfect location - there is all you need: A bike shop, a restaurant, a cool coffee place and a simple B&B all in the same building and surrounded by spectacular routes...

Check it out here:

...and of course all of that is closed right now because of restrictions..but there is hope...for later this year.

Comments & Questions

I think this is a great idea. Hopefully off to Nice for the ETAPE in July and planning to stay a couple of extra days and do some gravel and this would be a perfect solution.

Wonderful idea with the Open Houses around our little earth. It‘s sometimes really difficult to make propper plans for a remote adventourus bike trip when you‘re on your daily duties.
Will check it out for my next but one / post corona vather - daughter bike tour...

Great Idea. I still have great memories of BorderCross 2018! Looking forward to a life without lockdowns and riding from your Open House at some point!

Like your idea. Just a suggestion, if you do get to the states check out north western Pennsylvania. Lots of country roads mixed with some major bike trails. Hills are not huge but challenging. And right now no one knows about it. Small towns for supplies and lodging abound. And woods everywhere.

Hi Andy
Love the concept, bit Rapha-ish but no doubt it would be done in your own style with some great routes and great folk. The opportunity to rent your own bike away from home would be awesome
Love the play on words too - open house suggests ‘come in’ rather not allowed in
Finally, love the first suggested location, obviously, Axel built my bike so I know the location and view well. It’s incredible.
Are we heading for an OCC? Open Cycling Club with custom team kit? Why not!
I’m in!

This seems like a brilliant idea!
I'd be more than happy to get something like this going in Australia. We don't really have anything like that going, that I know of!
Well done!

Northwestern PA also adjoins to the western edge of the Catskills in New York. Could make for cool multi-day link up Poconos to Catskills.

Also, the Open community may be able to create suggested rides, hotels, coffee shops etc and maybe curated by Andy. Open has to evolve and it maybe the Open selling bicycles is a minor part of the business. Business have to evolve. I like your creative idea Andy.

Great idea - as a displaced Brit now living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm really enjoying my new U.P. and would love the opportunity to visit OPEN Houses around the globe. I also really like the idea of an OPEN Community - it seems you guys and your brand strike an OPEN cord in like-minded cyclists. It would be fun to connect with them in-person for local rides when the world is re-OPEN.
