BOTM: OPEN X SUPLEST: THE MOST LIMITED EDITION EVER... - PART 1

Andy Kessler - 19-Mar-2021
The good thing about this OPEN X SUPLEST limited edition is that we don't have any to offer...

But let's start at the beginning of this story and thats many, many years ago. During my time at BMC I met Daniel Balmer. He was a product manager in the road department.

In 2007 Daniel started together with Robert Gehrig the SUPLEST brand. I really liked their product offerings from the start. They have a really similar approach to branding and product design and yes they are based also in Switzerland. I still use one of their first ever produced MTB shoes - Swiss quality.

Then a while ago we designed a road shoe together. It was a funny story because we wanted to have the shoe ready for the launch of the OPEN MIN.D. Of course the shoe was available way before the frame, we launched it and I got a lot of questions: "why are you doing a road shoe at all" ? I guess by now it should be clear!

Now I have a "déjà vu" but this time its different: we are faster.... The plan was to be ready with this limited edition frame (grey with SUPLEST details) for the launch of their new gravel shoe in autumn 2020.  And then we would follow that up with our batch of "regular" grey U.P. frames.

As the shoe launch was delayed and we had a huge demand for our U.P. frames, we agreed that we should already start to sell those "regular" grey U.P. frames. We have already delivered two batches of them and in the next 2-3 months we should get more of them.

Now the shoe is ready, and the limited edition frames (with the famous Bern Bear logo from SUPLEST) are ready to be sold. Except we only made 20 and most of them have been used for SUPLEST crew and ambassadors. So only a handful are left, and we leave it up to SUPLEST to decide where they go... If you want one please contact info@suplest.ch.

For the shoe you find more info on the SUPLEST website. But hurry up I already ordered 2 not sure how many there are left...

Here is a great video about the OPEN X SUPLEST limited edition U.P. and more details of the shoe.

It's a 12.5 hour drive for me. It looks as if it'll be worth it!
Thanks for the heads-up on its location.
I think I need to come to Switzerland for a least one month!

The Suplest website says that they only ship to the EU and Switzerland. I know, 'cause I just tried to buy some without joy!

Andy, as you may remember, I got my frame in December (pre-Brexit). Now I can't get any components to fit to it and I can't even the shoes to go with it. The UK is a pariah state. It's official. Damnit

Hi Graham, yes its a nightmare right now with shipping stuff to the UK. The biggest problem is that there are no UK custom brokers also. They need to handle 5x more than before....

Don't remember seeing the part 2 and/or 3 with the beauty shots and specifications. Any chance the specs can b shared? Always good inspiration for future builds.
